Highlights of the week for Henry

Henry and Karthik practicing their presentation for the assembly

On Tuesday, we worked on our presentation in front of the whole school for the Monday assembly.  The presentations are about honesty, which is my group, justice, perseverance, courage, respect, responsibility, and empathy.  I think my poster is too polka dot.

The Soundbridge was these people that came from the Seattle Symphony and they brought a trombone, a violin, a gong.  Sam, one of the people who came, she made her own instrument out of a tissue box and two elastic band. It just sounded like blah.  On Wednesday, we went to the gym.  We had an opera that came from the Seattle Opera.  They performed "The Heron and the Salmon Girl".  The characters were first, there was a heron and an orca.  I think there was a turtle and there was a girl that could turn into a salmon.  There was a fisherman that was searching for salmon.  The salmon girl found her dad, who was sick because he didn't turn into a fish anymore. I think I liked the heron the best because I think she is a little better at singing.

This morning, I stuck my hair through my bird's cage and she was on her swing.  Then she noticed me and came over and sat on the bars right next to me at my face.  Then start pruning my hair.

First, most of us finished our Mayan research paper.  I feel like I did a pretty good job on my Mayan paper.  I am doing "the role of corn beliefs".  And then we had gym and we got to play castle ball on Wednesday.  And we also have gym today; I wonder what we are going to do?  We also are studying about Pakistan and areas which don't have many schools for girls in library.  We are reading about Malala Yousofzei's life.  Also this week, we had an instrumental assembly. I am still thinking about what instrument I want to do next year.  I know I want to get a wind instrument like a horn.

Highlights of the week for Aspen

Yesterday we had art and we made trees with tissue paper blossoms.  Somebody at my table thought it was boring.  But I think it was fun.

After art, we read on the lawn with our reading groups.  I'm in the Art Dog group.  Today we are doing Type to Learn and after after Type to Learn, we are doing gym.  I cannot wait to see what we are going to do in gym.

On Wednesday, Barbara Stahler came to talk to us about the Mayans.  She told us the Mayan women wear traditional cloths such as Wepays.  And she also told us they made big sculptures that resembled animals.  The Mayan stoves were made of bricks and they lit a fire to cook food such as tomatoes and some type of banana.  I also learned that they wove bags with a loom, not like the rainbow loom, just like a hand loom.  The Mayans wash cloths by hand which Barbara said it took about two hours.  And I would never do that at home because I think it might too hard.

Also on Wednesday, a few of the Husky Foodball Team members came to our school!  It was awesome!  We also did the pacer test on Monday and Wednesday.  I went on Monday and my partner went on Wednesday.  I do not, I repeat not like the pacer test.  It's too long and it makes you very thirsty.

Highlights of the week for Max

This week we did the Measurement of Student Progress (MSP) and it was tiring but fun.  The fun part was about every 35 minutes we would have  break.  On the break, we got got candy and gum. And the not so fun part was we had to have bananas.  For me the MSP took about two breaks to finish.  We also had this short recess and it was not on the real playground.  But it was still fun.

We also had Art Dog, the day before the MSP.  I liked the Art Dog the best of all the plays we had this year because there is this really cool part near the end where they showed a bunch of lights on the audience.  And it was really fun.  There is also another funny part when the robbers came in and stole the Mona Woofa.  It was funny because they were trying to sneak through the light traps.  I also liked how Art Dog would open a door -- this was the painting of The Scream.  Art Dog would do a code that sets the alarm on.

Our group did a presentation on Maya Culture last week and mine was on sports and recreation.  And I did a couple things in my presentation.  I showed how the Mayan's play the game and I also did a couple facts.

In this picture, there are Mayan pyramids that are on display.

Highlights of the week for Isabel

On Monday, my table group did a presentation on climate and cities in ancient Maya.  Our anchor activity was to draw each of our assigned topics.  My topic was "What was the climate in ancient Maya?"  I had white table as my group.

The other presentations from the different table groups so far are really good.  There was daily life and culture.  Today there is going to be history.  I really liked culture's anchor activity which was to dress up a paper doll with Mayan clothes.

On Wednesday, we had gym and I rode a giraffe unicycle.  Today we are having art.
