Zero Hunger in Nigeria
4-year-old Abaeze sits
out side on the dusty ground, as tears drop to the dirt, he will be going
another day without food. Imagine not being able to count on food being in your
pantry or fridge or not even being able to afford to have these items, or count
on a next meal. This is what it is like for 870 million people around the
world. These people do not have enough food. A fully stocked cupboard is rare
and lucky. We must stop this, people should see food as an everyday necessity,
instead of a rare occurrence. If I received a grant from the Bill and Malinda
gates foundation, I would use the grant to go to Nigeria because, out of 186
million people more than half are below the poverty line and don’t have enough
food. And these people lack nutritious fruits and vegetables as well. And with
this grant I would also give female farmers equal resources as male farmers.
Hunger is big problem because, all
over the world there are people who suffer from extreme hunger and it can
result in people dying and getting sick. These people don’t have much money and
cannot afford food. Hundreds of children suffer from a form of malnutrition.
And one in five children go to school hungry, this is very bad no child should
go to school hungry. And everyone should have access to nutritious foods.
Without these nutritious foods children can get malnutrition. In total 1.5
million people have been affected by not being able to afford food. I would
like to help solve this.
I would like to work with
family's in small parts of Nigeria, because their food sources are getting
smaller and smaller. For example, Lake chad in Chad and parts of Nigeria is a
large food source but due to a current drought it could shrink to a mere pond
in the next twenty years not able to feed Nigeria. The crops that are produced
don’t have enough to feed children and not able to feed the 6,600 primary
school students who attend school on an empty stomach. And because of these
hundreds of thousands of children are at risk of starving to death this year.
I would
like to help in the villages in Nigeria by giving female farmers equal access
to recourses, because right now, female farmers don’t have as advanced and
productive recourses as male farmers, so they can’t make as many crops with
these tools, and there less productive. With these more advanced tools, women
can be productive and make more crops to produce more food. The number of
people hungry could reduce by 150 million which would lower the amount of
people in Nigeria who are hungry. Also, I would employ females to other jobs,
so families could make more money for food and this could help prevent
complications due to malnutrition and could lower the amount of deaths
involving hunger in children.
Hunger
is a big problem because people are dying. I want to start small in Nigeria and
work with families, and businesses. And with the grant I will go to Nigeria and
give females equal resources as men. Also, I would employ females to other jobs
to help the families to make double the money. And use it for food so kids can
avoid malnutrition., no one should go to school or work hungry. I think that
helping people is important. Hunger has to be fixed, one thing at a time, every
little thing counts. When you help we can get closer to the zero hunger goal by
2050.

Hunger in Kenya
It's
10 am and Aliou Seyni Diallo a two-year-old is still waiting for his breakfast.
He collapses to his knees in tears and plops his forehead down on the dirt
outside his family's hut. His stomach is empty and his ribs are showing. He
doesn't know when he will get food. Hunger is a big problem[SA-M001] around the world
especially in Kenya. Kenya needs a lot of help in dealing with this problem
because million of its people are still dying of hunger and dehydration. If I
get a grant, I will hire OXFAM to buy the food and send it to this country.
Hunger is a big problem in the world.
About 795million people are hungry world wide. When you are hungry you cant do
many thing like, for an example you cant go to work, you cant hard do move, and
it is just really hard to do things, and whene you don’t work you cant get the
money and cant bey food. Like think of Alio Seyni Diallo, he said that he dose
not know when he will get foo, breakfast, dinner and stuff like that and his
ribs are showing and, his stomach is empty.
Hunger is a big problem in Kenya. It
needs to stop. About 795 million people are hungry. Between one and two million
people are starving because of a drought in Kenya. People are dying from hunger
and dehydration. They can't work because they don't feel good. 45% of deaths of
children were caused by malnutrition world-wide. One family said, "Each new
year brings new uncertainty."
If I
get a grant, I plan to create a program that will provide and clean water to
Kenya. I will use OXFAM to help me because it is a large nonprofit organization
that already helps many poor family’s and country’s. The plan is for OXFAM to
use the money to give beans, seeds for vegetable’s and chickens to people in
Kenya to use for farming as well as to eat. OXFAM will also dig wells for a
sustainable water source.
It is
important to get to Zero Hunger by 2030 so that the people in Kenya can live
longer, and work and have money to buy food.

Kenya’s
Hunger Solution
Wouldn’t it be crazy if you woke
up every morning wondering whether you would get to eat that day? Millions of
people live this way due to malnutrition. This is a problem that demands our
action. It is a big problem because children and families are dying because of
it. DYING! I will attempt to stop this kind of thing in Kenya. I have recently
received a grant, which I will use to help people in Kenya that are in need.
With my grant I will start a countrywide organization that ships food to Kenyan
people in need.
The reason that hunger is a
problem is simple. PEOPLE DIE. Families and children die from malnutrition. 815
million people across the world are malnourished and do not get enough to eat.
That’s a lot of people. Another thing to consider is that 66 million children
attend school hungry and in need of more food than they get. Malnutrition, in
all its forms, directly affects 1 in every 3 people. That means that in total,
1/3 of the people in the world are undernourished. One third
of everybody. Another thing to keep in mind is that 90 percent of perfectly
edible tomatoes are thrown away because of appearance. That is something that
we can stop easily without much work at all. Eat your food! Or at least offer
it to someone else, but only throw it away if there is a real reason.
I will use my grant to help
people in Kenya who are in need. Here are some reasons why I chose Kenya. 46
million people live there, and 47 percent of them, which is nearly half of the
population, are living under the poverty line. That adds up to slightly under
23 million people suffering. Half the country is hungry, that’s just sad. Also,
one fourth of all the Kenyan children are stunted, meaning that they are small
or thin for their age. One fourth, that’s roughly 11.5 million kids. In Kenya,
a leading cause of death of children under 5 is malnutrition, which is exactly
what I am going to attempt to stop. Last but not least, 369,000 children UNDER 5 are
already suffering from malnutrition. Already, even with their age being so low.
Is that not something worth working against?
With my grant, I will pay
for a countrywide organization that ships food to Kenyan people that are in
need. The way that this will work is that the organization would keep track of
as many schools and villages in Kenya as possible and when food shortages
occur, we will ship them food. I think this will work because as long as the company will continue
to be funded we could continue to do this. I think that this would be a great
start to significantly lowering the amount of hungry people in Kenya. The way
that the organization would continue to be funded would be through fundraisers.
We will use some of the money to pay the employees their wages, and some of the
money on the food that we deliver.
In conclusion, I state that
hunger is a problem that can be stopped with the right kind of plan. I think
that my organization is a great way to do that. I also encourage you to join my
organization, or, if not, then funding would be a great help as well. We can
help the people that are suffering, so why not do it. People are starving in
Kenya too, but we can help them! I encourage you to support my company through
donation and funding. It’s time to help the Kenyan people.

hunger
Imagine walking out side and being greeted by hordes of starving people with
their ribs showing, begging for even the littlest piece of food that you have.
This place is currently called Burundi. Zero hunger is a united nation goal,
hoped to be achieved by 2030. Starvation is a growing problem that needs to be
stopped. To be hungry is to be forced into a death trap in which you cannot
easily escape from. With this grant I will target Burundi, a place in which
hunger is too unbearably destructing to stand. To sustain zero hunger, I will
create chicken and cow farms that are run by the community.
Starvation is one of the world’s biggest problem and needs to be stopped.
Hunger is “a barrier to sustainable development” states an article titled zero
hunger, why it matters. The article is right, people die every day from
malnutrition. Already there are 232.5 million hungry in Africa and 58% in
Burundi are malnourished. I hope that with this grant from the Bill and Malinda
Gates foundation, that can be reversed.
I am targeting Burundi because Burundi has so many malnourished and even
more are hungry. I will not be able to do this by myself, but I know
people will help me. It just, hurts my heart to know that there are so many
people dying every day around the world because of hunger. Another reason is
that Burundi is prone to natural disasters, such as droughts, floods, (e.c.t)
making them more vulnerable to hunger. Hunger hit Burundi at the exact wrong
time; right now, they are recovering from 15 years of civil war and because of
that, extreme poverty. For example, during the war people lost their homes and
valuables, leaving them with nothing.
To make zero hunger sustainable I will set up locally run chicken and cow
farms. These farms will be run by the locals, so families will no longer be
hungry and get some money out of it. Another reason is that, as shown in the
book One Hen, (a book about a boy who bought a hen that saved his life) a
single chicken can change a hungry person’s entire life. Lastly, cows and
chickens are multi-purpose animals, so if one stops producing eggs or milk then
you can use the meat.
In conclusion, starvation is a growing problem that needs to be stopped. To
starve and to lose someone close to you is terrible. Also, with this grant I
will target Burundi. Next, to sustain zero hunger, I will create community run
chicken and cow farms. I know I may not be able to complete this goal on my own
but I have faith that people will support my cause to rid Burundi of hunger and
malnutrition with the farms. So that those people out there that are starving
can finally be safe and full. So don’t just stand there, take action!

Hunger in the USA
Imagine walking to your refrigerator and opening the door. Imagine there being
no food in your refrigerator. Imagine how you would feel but
way worse. That is how nearly 800,000,000 people in
the world feel right now. Even here in the US, there are many counties end up
with half their population hungry. We need to
do something to stop hunger, and by doing that then millions of people
would not have to ask every morning, will there be enough food for today? I
have a grant to achieve zero hunger, and I hope on using it to help places that
need help, like the USA. I also plan on making something to eliminate zero
hunger, because zero hunger is a big problem, not only in the USA, but in the
whole world.
Why
zero hunger is an important goal to solve
The United Nations goal of zero hunger is an important goal to achieve because
many people end up starving because they cannot afford
enough food. This, is caused mainly because of
one thing. There are about 200,000,000 farmers in the USA,
but in the world, the main reasons people are hungry, are
because nearly half of the farmers are not able to produce as much food as the
other farmers. These farmers typically end up with less land and end up not
having as much access to better seeds. Even though they can farm as well as the
other farmers, they have these challenges that make it hard to produce as much
food as the other farmers, that have better resources. I think we could
help by making sure that these farmers get what they need to grow good
food.
Why zero hunger is a problem
Zero hunger is a problem. It is a big problem because 1 in every 6 Americans
don’t have enough food. By achieving zero hunger, we could
help many people in the US who are hungry.
Shannon, Todd and Los Angles (or LA) are some places in the USA that have many people who
are hungry. In Shannon there are 8,095 people who are hungry. Also,
in Todd there are 5,300 people are hungry, and in LA 971,000
people are hungry. By working with places like Shannon, Todd
and LA we could really make a big difference by making a program to eliminate
hunger.
How to solve hunger in the USA
In the USA, 133,000,000,000 pounds of food were wasted out the
430,000,000,000 pounds of food was wasted in 2010. I think that
all the food we waste each day, could go to
the people who need it. I could start a food bank in places like LA, were
people could come and get the food that they need. To make it a sustainable
food bank, I would ask people to donate food, and maybe partner with schools,
and ask them to donate food. I would ask people to donate food, so billions of
pounds of food would not be wasted, and because then many people
would not go hungry in places that have a lot of
hunger, like Maricopa, in which there are 572,000 hungry people. I would ask
people for left overs, and say it will be going to the people who need it most.
In conclusion, I think that many people in the world have time to donate food,
and by donating food to food banks, and other organizations,
bit by bit we will be able to achieve zero hunger, not
only in the USA, but in the whole world, and you could help by donating food to
a local food bank.

Zero
Hunger
Did you know that many people all over
the world are starving and need your help? Imagine if you opened
your refrigerator and found nothing! Then after a
few hours you get so hunger that your stomach begins to
hurt so bad. That’s
how others feel. In Nicaragua, (Latin America) people are
dying of starvation. I believe they should have
the chance to eat like others. I once
felt hungry when I lived
in Mexico. I believe hunger should stop
because everyone should have a chance to live like other people.
We can stop hunger if you help
others in need. By the beginning of 2030, world hunger
shouldn't exist, but we can only accomplish this if we help
others. Hunger is a problem because it can make it easy to get a
disease. There are 800 million people that
are dying because of hunger and they really need help.
If I could help another country, I would
help Nicaragua (Latin America) because people speak Spanish there just
like me. Many kids in schools in Nicaragua don't have
much food and are seeking for help. In
Nicaragua there's lots of disasters such as hurricanes and
earthquakes. Also, kids in Nicaragua
are living in bad places that have no
food because adults have a hard time looking for jobs and they
would get less money than other jobs for example only 5 dollars an hour. There's about 22
out of 1,000 kids that die of hunger every day. WFP (World Food Program) supported164,000 schools
and are helping kids who are living in some of Nicaragua's poorest communities with
daily
meals, so that kids don't only get one meal a
day.
I
think a sustainable solution would be supporting local farmers or markets by
buying their fruits and vegetables. In addition,
I would make a fund raiser to get money to buy trees and seeds
to plant. Later, I would help with gardening.
A few months later, the seeds and trees would produce fruits
and vegetables. Other farmers would grow more
and more plants and trees to produce more food. The farmers in Nicaragua organize the food
to sale to the markets and get money and buy more plants to
have nutritious food all year.
In conclusion, I never knew how many
people are starving in the world. I know people in
Nicaragua need your help. I want help Nicaragua because
I believe kids and adults should all live in a place where there's
no hunger. We can help those 800 million people that
are dying. If we all helped, then there will not be
people without food in their fridge. Remember if
you help others in need, it will make a better future for a lot
of people.
