Highlights of the week for Elsa

I really liked the Dick Whittington show.  I liked the cat and I also like the pirates.  The cat was cute and I just like pirates.  I liked writing; I am almost finished with my story.  I feel good about the process.  First, you write a draft.  Second, you revise by yourself.  Third, you revise with a friend.  Fourth, you edit by yourself.  Fifth, you edit with a friend.  And then copy.  I enjoyed copying the most.  I also liked PE and Art.

I went to visit Santa this week.  I told him what I wanted and then he gave me a mini candy cane.  I got to wear pretty dresses.  Mine was purple.  And that's all.

Highlights of the week for Cannon

At Monday's assembly, our class presented questions about what we will learn in the next few months.

1. How can we make our planet better?
2.  How are we all taking action?
3.  What is global warming?
4.  What are the school communities in Arizona and Mexico?
5.  What is an environment?
6.  How do our needs and wants impact the environment?

My highlights of the week are the dramashop and art.  I enjoyed pretending to be a rat in the dramashop. The dramashop was about Dick Whittington.  I liked art because we got to make a city and finished it.

Highlights of the week for Luke

We made tons of building in art.  It is called City by Design.  We crafted tons of buildings.  We made a model city or town.  I made a department store.

I liked Hugh and Caleb's waterslide.  I liked the diving board and the public swimming pool that Jules made.  And the diving board makes you hit the roof.  By hit the roof, I mean the diving board was so close to the roof that you landed on the roof.

To prepare for the assembly we are hosting next week, we made a sign that said "What is Global Warming?"  We were going to do a presentation about environment and what can we do to make our world better and more.  And we will learn how to do this in the next few months.  We will learn about his with Ms. Bixman's class and Ms. Vandermeulen's class and a class from Mexico and a class from Arizona.

Highlights of the week for Oliver

This week we looked at Google Earth and made our own symbol to show where our classroom is.  This week our homework is to map our bedroom and/or another room.  I decided to map out our living room.

And these are the jobs we learned about last week.  And my group was the farmers.

This is a display of our work in the hallway.

This is me sharing my artifact which is a bunch of tiny Seahawks mini-figures.

Highlights of the week for Julia

This week we started a new kind of homework.  Now when we finish reading a book, we write down what we like or dislike about it.  This is the wall of our homework so everybody can look at it.

We learned to be a good community member.  We had different performances and my group was a farmer.  We were learning about different jobs in a community - a lot of our parents have jobs too.
I liked to perform for the class and I liked other groups performances too.

I liked this group.  They are clothes makers.  The did something different than a lot of groups.

This group didn't have time to practice but I think they did a great job.

This group was a cook.  I liked their dances.

They were workers.  I liked Luke's dance; I liked it because it kind of looked like he was building something 'cause he was stomping around.

In this picture, we are revision friends and a revision friend is someone who helps you work on your writing.

This is the whole worker group.

Highlights of the week for Atticus

I liked to look for the worms and the worm eggs but no one found worm eggs.  But everyone found a lot of worms and some were pregnant.

It was fun to jump into the leaves but we had to rake them up first.  I really like to rake and I got a lot of leaves in the pile.  It was about 1 1/2 feet tall.

I liked these plants because the one on the very right tasted sort of soury and sweet like a sour patch.  I have a gazillion of them that my sister loves.  The one in the back that has the orange and yellow flowers.  When the flowers dry up, the seeds come out of them and they can plant another bush.

I found a pregnant worm and it tried to get off my hand and it ended upside down in the hay and straw.  It crawled back out and I caught it again the picture above is when I caught it a second time.

I sat with Hiram behind this plant that has really really big leaves. And the tree in the background is really big and cool.

I really liked the Tilth garden because I've been there before and the carrots are really really good.  And the reading celebration was really fun 'cause I got to share my favorite book and we got to share it.  My other highlights of the year were the allergy assembly and PE, recess, art, and library.

My highlights of the week were the rainy day recess because I played Battleship with Theo and sunk one of his ships and he sunk one of mine.  I liked PE because we got to play real hockey games.  We had the sticks and puck; both team scored once.

My group worked on the high energy level and low pleasantness level.  We came up with ecstatic and angry.

Highlights of the week for Jules

I liked looking between the two pictures and seeing the difference.  I am really good at it because I have magazines that have the same game.

My highlights of the year are the allergy assembly and learning in my classroom.  I love the motions for Eagle Watch, Chunky Monkey, Stretchy Snake, Owl Eyes, and Skippy Frog.  I think everyone is a decoding dolphin.  The highlights of the week have been  PE, Art and library.  I like art because we get to paint and draw. I like PE because we get to exercise.  And I like library because I get to pick out a good book.

Highlights of the week for Sebastian

I really liked my reading group because we got a really good book.  Um, we got a book about a mummy mystery.  I really liked the people in my group because we are smart.

The pajama party was really fun.  And I really liked the stuffies that people brought.  OK.  And, I really liked the movies that we watched; it was really funny.  Ms. Nelson's Field Day and Ms. Nelson comes back.

In Keiko Sensei's class, we brought our stuffies outside.  I played a game where people were chasing us around and we were attacking them with our stuffies.  It was a tie at the game.

Highlights of the week for Lily

We had lots of fun doing our growth mindset with Mr. Posner, our substitute teacher.  We found out our reading levels for reading workshop.  I love my new books!  We got into our new small reading groups; I like my group mates and we got our reading group book.  My book is called The Case of the Mummy Mystery.  We learned to read with expression and lots of strategies for reading.  We wrote small moments for writing.  I wrote about my birthday.

We had an allergy assembly.  I love the assembly, the songs were really fun.  The singer had puppets too.  They were funny songs.

Highlights of the week for Lauren

My highlights of the week was PE and art, and library.  I have lots of fun in PE.  Thinking about the class charter was fun. I enjoyed practicing reading this week.

The folders were fun getting made.  I drew a person reading next a tree.  I think a bunch of folders pop out like when people put a bunch of color on it.

Ian’s Trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park

Ian’s Trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park

During my summer break my parents and I went to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. At Yellowstone I saw lots of animals such as bison, black bears, elk and mule deer. Once a bison crossed the road right in front of our car. Bison can weigh as many pounds as a small car! I also got to see a bear and her 2 cubs climbing a tree.  I was about 25 feet away from them, which was close.

Later I saw Old Faithful. Old Faithful is one of the many geysers. It is a hydro thermal feature. Old Faithful spews water up into the air every 60 -90 minutes. Old Faithful’s highest spew was 126 feet tall. That is as tall as a 12 and a half story building!

In Grand Teton National Park I saw lots of mountains. The mountains look a lot like the mountains we have around Seattle. On 7/5/14 I went on an alpine slide. It was awesome! An alpine slide is a concrete slide on the side of a mountain. You go up a chairlift to get to the top of the mountain and then you ride this cart thing down the mountain on the concrete slide. It was a blast! #1ride! I couldn't get our video link to work.

I recommend going to these national parks because they are really beautiful. If you go to either park, I hope you have a good time.
