Learning about China

For the past few weeks, our class learned lots about China, it's culture, and history.  We learned about the time before China was formed and the importance of standard measurement.   We also learned about dynasties.  Last week, we learned about kites and silk.  This week, we learned about Qin Qi Hwang Di and Chinese inventions before the Qin Dynasty.  We also smelled different things that might make up the elixor of immortality.  Also, we have been filling in a map of China and the borders of the different dynasties.

  1. I'm enjoying watching you fill up your map of China. I'm wondering what pictures you will put up next. I'm also wondering what DID the elixor of immortality smell like? -Max's mom

  2. The elixor of immortality smelled like salt, tea leaves, pepper, soy sauce, palm sugar, and mint. It tasted like brown sugar, salt cube, pepper, soy sauce, tea leaves, mint, green tea. We did not find the elixor of immortality. We found spices instead. We also learned that Qin Qi Hwang Di sent 500 girls and boys who were pure of heart to find the elixor of immortality. They did not come back and became a myth of founding members of Japan.

The only thing that didn't taste good was pepper. Carys' favorite was palm sugar and soy sauce. Felix' favorite one was pepper.
