Denying Hunger in Zimbabwe
Do you
know people are dying and getting
tortured from hunger around the world? Imagine walking up
to your pantry and fridge and you see nothing, but in other places
there is worse because those people lived that the
start of their life. The world is falling apart because many
people are suffering from major hunger that would not make
the world better. But how can we make it
better? Luckily, I will use the grant from the Bill and Melinda
Gates foundation in Zimbabwe where there is death from hunger and
diseases. It can be sustained
by giving good education to farmbetter and make more produce and give
healthy livestock to produce more food.
Many people are suffering from hunger.
According to the United Nations, "There are nearly 800
million who are suffering from hunger worldwide in the
majority developing countries that’s a big problem
and it's not okay. The UN says, "Extreme hunger and
malnutrition remains a barrier to sustainable development
and creates a trap which people can't
easily escape" because hunger is something hard to undo and
it doesn’t feel good when this is currently happening. "12.9 of
the population of the world is hungry" says the Food Aid Foundation.
According to Food Aid Foundation, "Poor nutrition causes nearly
half (45%) of deaths in children under 5, 3.1 million children die each
year". Can you believe that!
With the grant from the Bill and Melinda
Gates foundation I will help Zimbabwe to end their hunger. According to
the World Food Programme, "63 % of people in Zimbabwe live under the
poverty line". That’s more than half the population! WFP
says, "27% of children in Zimbabwe have stunted growth".
According to WFP, "undernutrition rates are high especially in
rural districts where diets lack". Imagine your
whole neighborhood suffering from hunger." More than
56 percent of all children between the ages 6 and 59 months suffer
from anemia" says the UN. At such a young age these kids
and babies are suffering from this and they also have a
food problem.
Zimbabwe can be sustained by eradicating
hunger and giving healthy livestock to produce more. WFP will
work to give good education
for more produce to make another move to keep it
sustainable and ensure better nutrition. According to the
UN, "The Sustainable Development Goals aim to end all forms of hunger
and malnutrition. The livestock such as chickens,
cows, goats, and sheep could reproduce and give more food, as
soon as that happens Zero hunger might have spread even out of
Zimbabwe. Adding on to my last sentence the people could earn more money, have
enough food and to make the rest of their lives happy way over the poverty
line.
In conclusion many people
are dying in the world because of hunger. The
definition of and help Zimbabwe get
away from hunger moving on we can
stop the hunger from dominating over the
world and help so
there is no suffering. You can go to
websites like WFP and donate. I hope not just Zimbabwe ends
their hunger but most importantly the whole world. It
back together to fulfill the world with joy and of
course absolutely y the whole world of the
world to complete the Zero Hunger goal. With this we can make the
world a better place.

Hunger is
a goalie protecting us from the goal of zero hunger.
A little boy stands on the side of the
road, begging for just one bite. He hasn’t eaten in 5 days. His
stomach growls, commanding him to eat. He collapses his tears turning
the dusty ground to mud. He stifles his last breath, he’s
gone. Hunger is a growing problem that can’t be ignored, it must be
stopped. Hunger has taken the lives of many people just like you and me. It is
time we take it down. With my grant I will work hard in a
small place called Burundi where zero hunger will become a reality
instead of a fantasy for once and for all. Burundi is
a small place in Central Africa. In 2016 it
had a population of about 10.52 million. It is a very
poor country due to civil war. According to
The Hunger Project, "Not every poor person
is hungry but almost every hungry person is
poor." To stop hunger will be a challenge but not an
impossible challenge.
Most of us never think twice about asking
for a snack, but for others it’s the complete and utter
opposite. According to Sustainable Development Goals, “There nearly 800
million people who suffer from hunger worldwide…” This is
bad. Hunger is one of the most harmful forms of poverty
today it kills about 3 million kids a
year. According to United Nations: zero hunger, "Globally, one
in nine people in the world today (815 million) are undernourished." It is
simply unacceptable. One of the other big
problems we are facing with hunger
is nutrition. According to the World Food Programme, "…more
than 7,000 malnourished children under 5 years of age receive corn-soya
blend as a supplement to their meals."
Imagine walking through a place
bustling with people begging for food, welcome to Burundi. Burundi is a
place in central Africa where year-round 2/3 of all family income is spent
on food, including farming season. I choose Burundi because they need our
help! Burundi has gone through many years of civil war,
and extreme poverty it has had a negative pull on
Burundi. According to World Food Programme, “Only 28% of
the population is food secure…” and 58% are chronically
malnourished. Also, according to the World Food Programme, “Burundi
is one of the country’s identified by both the Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) as being among the most affected by
soaring food prices.”
To take down hunger, we must take down
hunger together. With my grant I will work to get more
crop production by 25% and start loans that can travel around
small villages or communities like Burundi. How it will work is it
will start at any one family then they will use the money to buy something to
help a business or company. In the book One Hen by
Katie Smith, Kojo's mom uses the money to get wood to make a cart to
bring stuff to the market. There is a little money left over so Kojo's mom
let him use the money to buy a chicken. Kojo sells the eggs at the market
each Saturday and in two months he can pay back his mom. Then they pass on the
money to another family. In another two months he
has enough money to buy another chicken. This goes on and on then he
has enough money to go back to school. He works hard in school and with his
hens. He eventually can afford collage and that’s just the start. Next, getting
more crop production. I will get more crop production by educating farmers
on how to use chemicals to keep parasites that destroy plants
off their crops without hurting
the environment.
In conclusion, hunger is
not unstoppable, but it is
a challenge, and don't just stand there and
watch your beautiful world fall to pieces in front of
your own eyes help the world because the world helps you. You should
contribute to the amazing planet you grew up in by donating
to a local food bank or with money online to trust worthy websites that
are not scams. Also remember every
little bit helps. One of the many ways to improve our future is
by achieving zero hunger. Sustainable Development Goals
stated that, hunger is "...a key piece in building a better future for
everyone." Therefor if you would enjoy a better future for all
of humanity then get behind zero hunger and make it a
reality worldwide.

Zero Hunger
Did you know there are
millions of people who sufer from hunger worldwide? I believe that hunger
is wrong, and we should stop it. In order to
fix the problem, we will have to improve food security and
nutrition. However, it remains an enormous problem especially in
Myanmar. Myanmar is one of the top three countries most
affected by natural disaster, and violence continues to make the
problem worse. It has already caused people to die in
3 locations which are Kachin, Rakhine, and Shan. Also 20
million people are living below the poverty lines. If a family in Myanmar are
starving, some of
their children must find jobs that pay them
money. I feel sad because I saw a video about
a 12-year-old boy name Maw, who lived at
a small village and had 5 people in his
family. his family had running water but no electricity. So, he decided
to take a bus for about 3 hours and never come back so
that he could make some money for
his family every day, he works 6am -9pm there but he only
earned $1 a day. He saved the money and sent it to his family.
People who
are starving, don't get enough food because many people are
wasting food. Asia was the hungriest region in
2015, and the population was 511.7 million. Many people around the world
are hungry because they have poor harvesting practices. Since 2000, hunger
and malnutrition have increased.
We should
care about hunger because among all the countries, Myanmar is
one of the countries that has the highest hunger problem. There are
only 16% of children under 2 who are fed a whole meal a day and 1 in
3 children under the age of 5 suffers from chronic
malnutrition. Myanmar continues to register high rates to serious
diseases. 1 in 3 children under the age of 5 suffers from
chronic malnutrition. Myanmar also has
cyclones, subsequent floods, and landslide. The flood destroys the
crops which cause many people in Myanmar to go hungry
and going die.
You can help by supporting
the Zero Hunger Challenge and people are planning to end world hunger by 2030.
We will ask the people who aren't supporting world hunger to contribute their
money. You can support local farmers' markets and sustainable food choices. You
can help by changing in your own life and everywhere and stop wasting food. We
can work together with the government to support nutritious food for Myanmar.
People in Myanmar can use the grant to buy hens. When the hens lay the egg,
people can sell the egg or eat the egg. When they have enough money, they
can buy meat or pork.
In
conclusion, many hungry people around the world need safe and nutritious food.
If you want to help people who are hungry you can join Global Movement for Zero
Hunger by joining Zero Hunger Challenge. If you want hunger to stop you should
join the conversation on social media end world hunger like YouTube and you
could work all together to end world hunger. You should support good nutrition
for all and fight against food waste. We can give the money after natural
disaster.

The struggle of sub-Saharan Africa
In a continent with the
potential to thrive so many starve approximately 232.5 million undernourished. Hunger
in Africa needs to end. For the betterment of the world. Here's the
problem, where it is and how I'm going to fix it. With the grant I
got I can only do so much, remember I might be a start but I need you for
a finish.
People in Africa are
starving to the point of insanity. It needs to stop. Hunger and
malnutrition is the cause of 45 percent of deaths
in children under five for past few years and if we don't put a
stop to it Africa could crumple completely. Africa is the continent with
the second most hungry people in the world and more
of it's population falling below the poverty line each day. It needs
to stop.
I
choose sub-Saharan Africa because in sub-Saharan Africa projections
show a malnutrition
rate of almost 23 percent it's also a part
of Africa that was really hit hard by civil war that ruined the
land and poor farming practices made it hard to farm. Which
is bad because almost half of Africa's
food income (30 percent) is made up
of agriculture. Not to mention that 23 million out of the 66 million
primary school students that go to school hungry are in Africa. I will not
let sub-Saharan Africa's problem go unsolved.
One day I was going to the
grocery store when I saw a man positioned outside the store who seemed
homeless. Then I saw a woman give him a banana inspired by the action I got him
some food. But when I got out he was gone. I couldn’t help there but
I know I can help here. Africa has the perfect climate for farming. But
has been a
neglected resource and donor assistance
has been slashed 72 percent between 1988 and 2004 if I
invested in farming and could help farmers get back
on their feet. The way this works is that
if the farmers could produce enough food they could
make more money and then make more food, food prices would lower. If
that works Africa could produce enough food to
raise its self out of depression.
We may not be able to free
the world of war of hate of death, but we can free it from
hunger. Help anyway you can. "If you can't feed a
thousand people than just feed one" says mother Jeresa. I will not
let the third world be the first to die.

Securing a Brighter Future for the Burkina Faso People
At
just six months old Alexis was malnourished. He lives with his mother and two
siblings, who live in a small millet farming village in northern Burkina Faso.
The millet that Alexis and his family live on only gives them enough food for 4
months of the year. In that other 8 months when Alexis and his family don’t
have food, they are vulnerable to malnutrition. We need to help kids like
Alexis and keep them from falling into the category of the 3.5-5 million kids
each year who die because of malnutrition. With my grant, I will start
achieving our global goal of zero hunger by starting in Burkina Faso and
securing land rights, which will increase agricultural production by 60%.
815 million or 1 in 9 people
worldwide are hungry, and 2 billion people expected by 2050. This is very much
a problem. Those 815 million people are far less productive and much more prone
to dieses than me or you. For young children being hungry means long term poor
health, disability and poor educational development. And those are the children
of the future. The children that will create new technology, cure cancer and
even help stop hunger. In other words, they will help the world. Our world. By
solving hunger, it creates a better future for everyone.
Burkina
Faso, a country in western Africa is one of the poorest countries in the world.
80% of the population live on rural small family farms, that make a living
through agriculture, livestock and forestry. Nearly half of the population
lives on 1.25 US dollars per day, making it an important place to start the
quest of zero hunger. Burkina Faso is prone to natural disasters such as,
severe cycles of drought and flooding and man-made disasters such as rapid
deforestation. Those disasters lower farm productivity which leads to food
scarcity and rising prices of food. Another issue in Burkina Faso that effects
food availability is the conflict between farmers and the pastoralists. What
causes these conflicts is the difficulty in sharing resources. When there is
drought or flooding the pastoralists are forced to move to different land that
has grass for their cows, which usually is the farmers lush crop. This results
in conflict and even violence between the two communities. By lifting the heavy
burden of hunger off the Burkina Faso people's shoulders so they can try to fix
and solve the puzzle of the natural disasters and the conflict between the
farmers and the pastoralists.
My
solution for achieving our zero-hunger goal is to secure land rights for
Burkina Faso family's and farmers so that they can invest in property
improvements. To not have land rights means that the government or a tribe can
come along and take it. In 2015, over half of the rural households in Burkina
Faso indicated that land rights were a concern, and over one third of the
house-holds indicated that they are worried about their land being taken away.
So working with the government to create laws that you can't take land and
creating documents that show land ownership will reduce the conflicts between
the farmers and the pastoralist.
While
most people in America don't have to worry about secure property rights, it is
estimated that more than 1billion people across the globe don't have secure
land rights, most of whom are poor. By securing land rights those 1billion
people can invest in their property without the worry of it being taken away.
The investments may include buying tools, fencing their property or growing
space and improving soil. These investments could increase agricultural
production by up to 60%. This results in the farmers family having more food to
eat and additional food to sell at the market. This could increase the family's
income by up to 150%. With this additional money the family can send their children
to school, and school opens endless job opportunities, not only does sending
their child to school open job opportunities it also, it is shown when girls go
to school and graduate, teen pregnancy is cut by half. Imagine if all of
Burkina Faso had secure land rights. The possibilities are endless.
Alexis
was saved from falling into a severe form malnutrition, by getting the
nutrients he needed in a paste, from a clinic. If he had secure land rights
this wouldn't be a problem. When I go to Burkina Faso with my grant, I will
secure land rights so that the Burkina Faso people can invest in their property
and produce more and better crops which will significantly decrease
malnutrition like Alexis's. But my goal is stopping hunger in young children
before it even starts, so those young children in school or anything they do.
To help those children you can donate money to organizations that work to
secure land rights.

Hunger No
More in Afghanistan
Zuri walked up to
her refrigerator and pantry and saw that they were empty. I don’t think
this is right. Nobody should wonder when they are
going to eat next. Hunger is a problem and we need to end it. Many people are hungry
in the world. I picked Afghanistan because it has
the most need. With this Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant I will go
to Afghanistan in Asia and help educate farmers to produce
crops.
Many people
are hungry in every part of the world. There are 216 million fewer hungry
people than 1990-1992. But, right now there are still
815 million who suffer from hunger worldwide. I can get
a snack whenever I want. Others either get a little
bit of food or no food at all. Everyone should
be able to get a snack whenever they want.
Every 10 seconds a child dies of hunger. Which means, 3 million
children die each year. It's hard to think that most
of those children didn’t have the opportunity to
change what they ate. The loss of all these children is because they are not
getting enough nutritious food. One fifth of all the children in the
world are undernourished. According to Mercy Corps, "Poor nutrition is
responsible for nearly half of the deaths of children under 5".
Malnutrition affects 1in every 3 people around the world.
With this
grant I am going to work
with farmers in Afghanistan, in southern
Asia, because it has the most need. Asia has 520 million who are
hungry. Which is
double of what any other continent has. Most of the hungry
families in Asia live in rural areas where they depend on
agriculture to survive. 50 percent of the world's
poorest families grow their food. Which makes farming and livestock
so important. Even with people producing food
around the world, up to one third of it is not even consumed! Some of
that is because of inefficient farming techniques,
lack of harvest storage and management resources, and
weak market connections. About 39 percent of Afghans live below the
poverty line. With many thousands of children dying each year because, of
the lack of nutritious food. Sadly, "41 percent
of Afghan children under 5 are stunted because
they are malnourished" according to World Food Programme. That is almost half of Afghan children under
5.
9,500
children from Afghanistan die from diarrhea each year because of
poor sanitation in their food. That is why I will help and teach
Afghans how to produce crops. It will
be sustainable and easy. Afghan farmers need to produce
crops better than they do. Once I educate them they can pass information
through generations. I wouldn’t have to start a working project. I just
teach them, and they grow nutritious food
themselves."Since the 1900s 75 percent of crop diversity has been
lost from farmers field in the world” according to the United Nations. In
Afghanistan severe drought and extreme weather is destroying crops. Relief
Web says
"4,000 metric tons of food in areas are inaccessible because of
snow closure. Which is enough for 219,000 people to get through the
winter". Most crops are healthy and have lots of nutrients like grains,
fruits and vegetables. Losing those things is a problem.
In conclusion,
hunger is a huge problem and we need to end it. I will
cover Afghanistan by educating them. You help
your community. You can help by donating to those
who are in need, starting a project, or anything else that would help your
community. You
can also go
to a website and donate. That would be easy, and that money could
go to places that you couldn’t go
yourself. A project or donation could be big or small. Doing
those things can add up
to saving people's lives. I believe that if everyone that
can help, helps we can achieve the goal by 2050, to end world hunger.

Hunger is a serious problem all over the world. Many people suffer from malnutrition as it was mentioned in pupils' essays. I can say that the pupils have done a great job, researching this topic and finding a lot of facts. I am glad that they have solutions to the problems, this means that they are really concerned with the problem they have written about. Good job, guys.

ReplyDeleteI think the hunger problem is very serious, I read sadly these lines, because I found out that there are also countries where dining three times a day is a luxury
