Highlights of the week for Lucas

This week we learned about sister schools (above) which is a organization that gives things to people in Uganda to help them. They give things like school supplies and clothes.

This week we also learned about "how to write an argument"(above). We also learned about different types of evidence (below).

We learned about data, quotes, facts, and examples. We are starting on our argument essays next week. We also learned about using graphic organizers.

Another thing we learned was "how to sustain a discussion"(below). some ways to sustain a discussion are: I agree..., or maybe It's..., or I thought differently... .
All in all, I think that we learned a lot this week and I am exited about next week.

Highlights of the week for William, Part 2

This is the second part of my post for highlights of the week.

We went on a field trip on Friday the 16th of October. The show had only one actress in the entire thing, which is pretty amazing. The show was called "Havana Hops," about a girl who made a tryout for performing hip hop for the President in the White House. But she is really nervous about performing, so she asks her mom, who says finding her family roots will help her stay more confident. They go to Cuba to visit the girl's grandma, who was losing her memory. Her grandma didn't recognize her at first, but she remembers when they dance the salsa. The girl's grandma tells her about her roots and how to find them when she is nervous. So the girl goes back to Washington D.C. and sees her grandma and her  mom and the President in the audience. She is nervous at first, but then she finds her roots and does a wonderful performance. Everybody cheers at the end.

The actress's name was Paige. She answered many questions at the end of the show. she even autographed a slip of paper for our class, which is shown below:

I t was a very exciting field trip, and I'm glad we went.

Highlights of the week for William

This week Ms. Kathleen put up our shoes that we colored on the marathon road paper. She will move them along the road as we continue through the year. She covered them with a shiny plastic cover to make them look nice.

This week we also tried different poetry strategies for growth mindset poets, for example, structure, perspectives, and strategies for how to put feelings into our poems. I've only used free form for my poem structure, so I'm going to try to use a haiku structure next time. I've also used the perspectives from people and things, but not a place yet, so I'm going to try to use the perspective of a place in my next poem. I might even write a haiku from the perspective of a place! But that's going to be kind of tricky. The rest of the class has done an amazing job on their poems, and a lot of them are really silly.
We  are also revising our poems this week. Many of our classmates' poems are sounding better now that they are revising them.
In addition, we are starting our to make our wonder balls this week, which are balls we are making out of paper circles.  We write poems on the circles, and then we fold the circles in half and glue the sides together to make the ball. Here is a picture of a wonder ball Ms. Kathleen made below:

Highlights of the week for George

The charter for small group work.

The yearlong class charter with all our signatures.

Our Logical Consequences sheet.

This week was an eventful one, to say the least.
We started Spelling and took our first test. We had Mrs.
Bailey as a substitute while Ms. Kathleen gave reading
level tests on Tuesday and Wednesday. Congratulations
to everyone who advanced. We also signed the classroom
charter (seen above) and worked on Small Group Work
and Logical Consequences sheets. Yesterday we played
a game where one person says a sentence (such as "I like
hot dogs") and someone else paraphrases what the first one
said ("(BLANK) likes hot dogs") word for word. I hope Ms. Pat has that dog poetry book because I really want
to check it out.

Highlights of the Weeks for Eloy

Teotihuacan

Just in case you still didn't know, my trip to Mexico was great and one of the best trips I've had. We went to Chapultepec and Xochimilco in Mexico City. We also visited the Aztec ruins of Xochicalco and Teotihuacan. I hope you enjoy of last week for me.

We did a lot of fun things this week. With Profe. Laura, we learned about fractions and how to use them in real-life problems. In science we learned how to make a model without knowing all the information about the object. With Mrs Kathleen, we learned how to have a growth mind set. We also used our carpet and all-time class rules this week. Another thing we did was haikus and normal poetry. I hope Marshall and Griffin feel better. This was a very productive week.
