Another day in Ethiopia

Thanks for asking those great questions!  Today we spend the ENTIRE day at the orphanage and it was exhausting!  The orphanage is really quite small.  There are only 4 kids left and they spend most of their days in one small room, but today we were outside in the small court yard.  It has high walls so we can't see what is happening outside on the street.  The court yard is about a quarter of the size of the undercover area at your school.  We spent much of the day blowing up balloons, blowing bubbles, coloring and throwing the ball.

The orphanage--called Hannah's Hope.  You see the courtyard in the foreground.  The bottom floor is office space and storage.  The 2nd floor with the windows on the left is the play/tv room and the part to the right are the 2 bedrooms.

  1. Theo - How many special mothers are there at the orphanage. Why did Nati go to the orphanage?

Atticus - Why did you decide adopt Hlina?

  2. Theo, there are about 6 special mothers at the orphanage--2 work each day and they trade off. Nati was brought into the orphanage by his aunt because his mother was unable to care for him.
Atticus, we decided to adopt because we really wanted to have another child and adopting seemed to be the best way for us. We first looked into adopting form the US but decided against that for a few reasons. After looking into international adoption we decided on Ethiopia because both Theo's dad and I have spent time working in Africa and admire the Ethiopian people and culture.
